As you all know, the corona virus has meant school closures in Kenya and Malawi so sadly we have had to stop all classes in both countries and any other events such as the Ballet Gala planned for July. Also any visits from professional artists from Europe and Canada have been put on hold for now . We will keep you posted as to future developments but meanwhile you can go to our Instagram and Face book pages to see the “distance" classes that are being sent via WhatsApp film clips to keep the children in touch with their teachers and their particular disciplines. The teachers are also continuing expanding their own skills, ready for the return , which we hope will be by September.
A special thanks to Scope Market Kenya for their wonderful generosity in giving food parcels to over 800 families of the children and teachers in the Anno’sOneFineDay programme in Nairobi. It was a gesture of extraordinary kindness and we are all very, very grateful.
Anno's Africa is a UK based children's arts charity running educational arts projects for children living in slum conditions in Kenya and in cities and towns in Northern Malawi.
The charity was set up in memory of Anno Birkin (www.anno.co.uk) a young, gifted writer and musician who died in a car crash in 2001, just one month short of his 21st birthday.
Anno's Africa has been operating in Kenya since 2006 and there are currently over 2,000 children participating in our workshops in Nairobi and Nakuru and in the weekly clubs run by our sister organization One Fine Day in the Nairobi slums. We are now also working in Northern Malawi with 700 children in Mzuzu and Nkhata Bay.
